iMacs Drop DVD Drives

OIT has started preparations for the next fiscal year’s life-cycle replacement computer purchases for faculty and staff offices and learning spaces.

The campus should be aware of a change in the configurations available from Apple for iMac desktop computers. Because Apple is moving to a slimmer form factor for its new iMacs, DVD drives will no longer be included in the current models.  OIT recommends the use of flash drives or external hard drives as an alternative to DVD drives for external data storage and access.

To see the configurations of iMacs available, please check out the Office Computers page on the OIT web site.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact OIT by creating a web ticket at or by phoning the IT Support Center at 240-895-4357.
